The Artefact
The Authors give birth to an abstraction, an object of cognitive conception that can allow an analysis and understanding of human reality within an organisation that faces the challenges of Uncertainty.
While abstract and intellectual, that object has the ambition to usher in concrete and applicable solutions aiming to conceive a psychopolitical contract likely to maximise the effectiveness of the organisation in an uncertain environment.
In their endeavour to construct such an intellectual object, the Authors have relied on the following steps:
ü Reorganisation of existing concepts – a wealthy bibliography allows to exploit concepts coming from diverse disciplines such as the Theories of Complexity, the Theory of Organisations, Strategic Management, Behavioural Psychology, or Psychopathology
ü Demonstration of causal relationships – a process aiming first at isolating variables and other explanatory factors then at underscoring the relationships between those explanatory factors by building upon three legacies: the rules prescribed by formal logic, the findings drawn from related disciplines, and their own experience as business consultants
ü Statement of personal views – through rejection or adherence to schools of thought or paradigms which have had a significant influence on Strategic Management and the management of organisations
ü Proposal of new concepts – implying a redefinition and a new selection of explanatory factors that have an influence on the feeling of Uncertainty within an organisation
The exploitation of the thinking tool that the proposed artefact represents leads the Authors to the following conclusions:
ü Adherence to Society of Uncertainty – contemporary society should be qualified as Society of Uncertainty
ü The feeling of Uncertainty translates into dysfunctional behaviour – the feeling of Uncertainty is symptomised at work first by stress and mental suffering then by mismatch experiences and dysfunctional behaviours
ü Non-adherence to organisational culture – cultural management does not allow any elimination of dysfunctional behaviours caused by the feeling of Uncertainty
ü Necessity of Partnership-Based Adherence – Partnership-Based Adherence is the solution to which one must resort to, in order to eliminate the adverse consequences of the feeling of Uncertainty
